Botox is a purified form of the botulinum toxin that works by relaxing specific muscles under the skin in order to treat facial wrinkles and improve facial symmetry. Botox was the first drug to use botulinum toxin. Other products now include abobotulinumtoxinA (Dysport), rimabotulinumtoxinB (Myobloc) and incobotulinumtoxinA (Xeomin).
Botox treatment does not required anesthesia. Using a small needle we inject Botox into specific muscles. The number of injections needed depends on many factors, including the extent of the area being treated. The results are usually visible after 7 to 14 days.
The effects of botox usually last for about 3 or 4 months.
Dermal fillers, sometimes called soft tissue fillers, are substances designed to be injected beneath the surface of the skin to add volume and fullness. Depending on the filler selected, they can help plumping up thinning lips, enhancing or filling in shallow areas on the face, decreasing or removing the shadow or wrinkle under the eyes caused by the lower eyelid, filling in or softening the look of recessed scars and filling in or softening static wrinkles, especially on the lower face.
A chemical peel is a procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers. The skin that grows back is smoother. Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles, discolored skin and scars.
